Guest were in town and had the hibachi dinner, chicken & steak, Saturday night at Sawa, Woolbright & Jog. Two nights later they take us there. Two of us had chicken and two steak. How long does food poisoning take? The two of us who had the chicken had explosive diarrhea. He bolted to the bathroom after the check arrived and again as we were leaving. We waited outside worriedly texting him in the restaurant bathroom. He had no signal. He finally came out. It hit me in the car. Fortunately we live around the block. OMG! I still had diarrhea this morning. They flew out first thing this morning. Wonder how he is going to fair traveling in his condition. I'm afraid to leave the house today. Now the unimportant stuff. They have a number of hibachi chefs. My friends two days earlier had a more theatrical & entertaining chef. Our chef last night twirled his utensils on arrival, banged them against the grill, made a disappointing volcano and split. While he was just grilling our food we watched the chef across from us who's show was much more exciting and twice as long. The food was not portioned out equally. The chef gave the majority of the food to my exploding out of towner. I walked away hungry. $2.50 per person additional surcharge as someone else mentioned here, is ridiculous for the white rice they warm up on the grill and pass off as fried rice. They took away our plates while one of us had quite a bit left on her plate and was still eating. Three of us had been eating as the food was placed on our plate. She wanted to eat her rice and yakisoba with her steak. It was wrong of them to clear off the table while she was still eating. It wasn't like they needed the seats. No one was waiting to be seated. By the way. I lived in Fuchu & Fusa, Japan a number of years. The yakisoba last night was burnt and consisted of just noodles. I would have given them only one star had the out of towers had not had a good experience with a different chef and no food poisoning two nights earlier. I won't be leaving the house today and I won't be going back to Sawa.

Great Sushi for a Great Price and Great Service. Sushi Rolls are great and I also recommend the chicken fried rice. Best Sushi in Boynton I have eaten, I prefer them over lemongrass and other higher end locations and they are half the price. I have become a regular and I always tip well but they continue to take care of me with great service and huge portions.

Don't go on Sunday . The sushi is not good on Sunday . Fish stale tasteless and tough . Been here for lunch dinner and takeout . I guess they use up all scraps from week . Very disappointed. Had to throw out my food yesterday was inedible .

First time here, I was really impressed by the decor, atmosphere and being it was in a stripmall. The chef put on a great show, food was excellent,. The drink specials at 3.95 merely had any alcohol. My tolerance might be too high. The wait for the chef to come out was too long specially as we where the only table to be served. One thing i like with Benihana is being that the rice was served first & I always finish it by the time the meat is serve, the many chefs I've had always offered to cook me more rice (Free of charge). Sawa did not offer, but when I asked I was told I can purchase more rice.

Hostess is so rude, we stopped eating there for some time but decided to try it again. Big mistake. We were regulars and they don't seem to care about the locals. Food is good usually but the staff up front when we order to go couldn't be nastier. And they have the audacity to charge $.50 for a teaspoon of spicy mayo. It's just a matter of principle, you don't charge for condiments. Surprised the soy sauce wasn't extra. In the future we will not dine here again, we prefer places that greet you warmly and truly appreciate your patronage. But they won't care about losing good customers I'm sure.

My family went there for Mother's Day dinner and we had a reservation for 5:00. The food and service were both great and while we were finishing up our drinks the server dropped the check. The kids wanted dessert so we let him know and his response was that sorry, you can't have any dessert because there are people waiting for the table. Now, this was at around 6:15 so it wasn't like we were lingering around for hours, plus, they dictate how long your meal takes since they cook it right there and serve it to you. So we told him that we aren't done with our drinks yet anyway so can the kids eat dessert while we finish up? No, actually take your drinks to the bar to finish them so we can have the table. Our check was close to $500.00 and they didn't even offer to seat us at one of the tables outside the hibachi area for dessert, nothing except "leave." As much as we like their food, we will never go back there and I just wanted to share the way we were treated on Mother's Day, mind you!!! Very disappointing.

Very nice place, kind of hidden away. Quiet place for lunch but dinner time it's packed. Habachi style food preparation tableside ( volcano included ). The sushi rolls are very good and you can sit at a regular table if you don't want habachi dinner. The staff is very nice, none of us had to wait for anything. The portions are huge so that if you have dinner here you'll have lunch for the next day ( to go box ). The prices are good for what you get. Its tricky to find since it's in a shopping center but the flipside is plenty of parking! :)

I meant to order a bubble tea but got the Thai iced tea out of habit. Darn! Either way, the Thai iced teas was good. I noticed the sign on their window that they have a lunch hibachi special on the weekend. So even though we went for sushi, we ended up getting hibachi. We ordered the sushi appetizer which was good, and the grilled whole squid in a butter sauce which was delicious. The hibachi came with soup, salad, and stirred fried noodles. We ordered shrimp hibachi and fried rice. They use butter and chopped garlic to flavor everything which is always good. I will be back and get that bubble tea!

I came for a team dinner and we had an awesome time! We each ordered a combination dinner with different sashimi appetizers. Everything (the meats) was cooked to perfection. The vegetables and rice were super tasty and flavorful. For dessert, we tried the tempura cheesecake, the tiramisu and the peanut butter chocolate cake. Each were delicious and we left STUFFED. The bill was about $150 including tip for plenty of food for four. Awesome time!

Their sushi (especially their spider rolls) are out of this world. Just pure bliss! All I order from them is their sushi to be honest. Have not dined in; mostly take out. But they're very nice and they work quickly. Their bubble tea is 'okay'. I was glad to find a bubble tea seller near the area but unfortunately their pearls were very hard, crusty, and chewy 70% of the time. I've ordered many bubble teas from this restaurant and it was usually a huge gamble each time. I would not advise ordering bubble tea here.

Incredible. Incredibly BAD. Had reservations for 10 people on New Years. Came in and the hostess said our table would be another twenty minutes. Twenty minutes later we came back--just another twenty minutes--we waited AN HOUR AND A HALF past our reservation to even get a place to sit down. They said the manager " was not in." Not in? On new years eve? Yes. Please continuing lying straight to my face. When we finally sat down we were served their general mushroom and broth soup---sans mushrooms. When I asked the waiter what the deal with that was he said, "Oh yeah, whoever made that must have just forgot the mushrooms" and then WALKED AWAY--no offer to get different soup. They gave us an appetizer on the house after I demanded it. Drinks took another fifteen minutes to get to the table. And then one person in our party ordered chicken & stew Hibachi--and only got steak. My problem is with the organization and management for last night. You had one hostess who was doing her best to get everyone in--but wasn't being honest about the wait time. You have to be honest about that or you're going to have angry customers. You always need a manager on staff during a busy holiday. And if a chef was going to be out then you should have CALLED those who made reservations and informed them that their times had been pushed back--not let them get there, lie to them saying it would only be so long for a table and keeping them waiting in a room with nowhere to sit. The chef and food were great as usual, but the horribly mismanagement last night left a bad taste in my mouth anyways. Hoping the management does right by their customers in the future.

So, I have only been here to have their sushi. Never had their Hibachi. Nonetheless, this place is amazing. Their waitress Sam ( I think thats her name) is amazing. Their sushi is as fresh as it can get. And you want the funny part, I don't even eat sushi. I am hooked! I love their sushi. Clean, tasteful, fresh and friendly. This is my to go place. I shall be back to experiment some more :)

Horrible hibachi service. The guy making the hibachi was in a bad mood maybe because it was 9 pm. But, we were not eating for free. If they don't want to work late they should close their doors earlier. The guy served us by just throwing the food on our plates. Half the rice and noodles were outside the plate. He even burned my daughter's arms when he gave her the vegetables. There were 5 kids eating with us and he was not going to do the volcano but I asked and he finally did. No happy face with the oil. No show with the knives. And the meat was overdone and the scallops way too small. Never going back there again!!

I don't have any problem with the food or the antics of the chef on the Hibachi - it was certainly good and entertaining, respectively. Ate there about 2-3 weeks ago. My primary beef with this restaurant relates to their "HIBACHI TWILIGHT SPECIAL." This special is advertised for much less than the regular dining prices. BUT BEWARE. We arrive early with our family to take advantage of the Twilight Special ($11.95 for Hibachi Chicken, $12.95 for Shrimp and $13.95 for Steak), but discovered (after asking various questions) that the amount of Chicken, Shrimp or Steak is about 50% less (quantity) than that served in the regular dinner. So even though we were there to save money, we decided (although grudgingly) to go with the regular dinner at higher prices. They do offer 15% off, CASH ONLY, with coupon, for the regular dinners, which we took advantage of. To us, the prices for the Twilight Special are deceiving.

  • Ralph Y L.

It is conveniently located it large and has both hibachi tables and regular tables. Reservations are honored and the presentation is fun. For about twenty dollars you get soup salad and plenty of food. I had the steak and the ret has shrimp combos. You can get a large Japanese beer. Alas no draft beer. They are pleasant A bonus in the same shopping center is a great ice cream store that is fantastic. Do not order dessert instead have ice cream

Gave this place a shot as we just moved to the area. We were pleasantly surprised by how amazing the sushi was. The quality was great and they have some very creative rolls on the menu. Not too much rice and the rolls were the perfect size. The sushi chef is a true artist. We have tried other items in the menu and have not been disappointed. The soups are great and so are the salads. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting some great sushi.

Yay for it being around the corner! We came in to give this place a shot after receiving some coupons in the mail for it. It has a nice decor and the bar looks lovely. We were seated in the hibachi area and we had some nice conversation with the couple who sat next to us. You will get what you pay for. A soup, salad, chicken, steak, veggies, pasta, and rice all for $18.95. Not too bad! The chef put on a great show and even flipped a egg and some rice for us. My husband caught the rice and shrimp after trying a couple of times that the chef flipped in the air. It was an overall nice experience and we plan to go back again.

Been to Sawa's a few times... Actually originally before I converted to Yelpism, I just used to check Yelp for places to go as I had moved to a new state... So we went at the grand opening there was some coupon or another... We did the hibachi... Personally, I am not a Hibachi food fan. hey it's a stir fry, let's not kid ourselves... Portions are well sized, you watch the tricks... i enjoy being there but it's not my gig... So usually I will join all at the Hibachi table, it's always entertaining (or extremely frustrating - dont be upset - if there are loud kids) but I have my sushi rolls instead of Hibachi. We had to be somewhere at 9 p.m. and we were dying of hunger (seriously dying, as in - i will kill you if you even talk to me kind of hunger) so Yelp I go, and in that neighborhood Sawa was right around the corner... Boom, we make a run for it. We walked in and I just zoomed straight to a booth... Didn't even want to do the Hibachi style, we were in a rush, starving and needed some quiet. So - Miso Soup - yum! Gone in gulp. (They thought we were crazy) Beef Negimaki (hello! can someone remind me every single time i have that, that is is terrifyingly hot when you bite into it! I always forget that, it takes a while to cool off) was really yummy. I had two pieces of sushi - soba and hamachi. The Mackerel was dry, but then again it's not a particularly popular piece of fish... Didnt matter, the flavor tickles my palette and i like getting tickled... Orange Dragon is my favorite roll... inside eel and asparagus and the outside has fresh generous salmon on it with the tiny black caviar bits on them... So refreshing and soft and moist. Can't remember the name of the other roll, but it was a safe bet - tuna, salmon, white tuna - a basic. Had that for lunch the next day. So.... we had THREE girls serve us (the dining area was empty, not sure what was going on in the HIbachi section)... First we said, miso soup, water. That was prompt... When we gave our order we were watching the sushi chefs hanging out, and I guess it took time for the girl to put the order in the back as I was holding onto my chair (or bench for that matter) white knuckled fingers gripping it waiting for the sound of the paper coming out that the order was filled! Whew, it came, the food came, it was nice and good. Uber fantastic, no... But it seems they have gotten less pompous and "better than" with their attitude since it opened... Perhaps because reality hits business owners that you have to keep customers happy. One major negative: I read a review by a person who was horribly humiliated here by their size. That is very hurtful and I am very sorry it happened to them.... SO... for a special date, not really - for a decent dinner, go for it.

I took my wife here as a Valentine's Day surprise. She has never been to an authentic Hibachi before. The service was excellent, and the cook was awesome as well, performing different tricks. I was waiting for him to toss a piece of food in the air for us to catch, but alas, he never did it. It's just amazing to see the food being cooked right in front of you, especially the initial fire that nearly sets our collective eyebrows on fire! The food was excellent as well, they give you more than your money's worth at SAWA. I would definitely recommend it. Advice to anyone going: Don't take a date here, or just one other person. You should go as a group of 8. It's a lot more fun.

We ate at Sawa twice this week. The food is very good but we were unhappy on our second visit. A group of us sat at the bar for drinks before we moved to the hibachi.we told the bartender/manager that wanted to be seated in time for the twilight prices. She said no problem. When the bill came my husbands entree was regular price. I questioned the server and he said that my husband ordered the "regular " portion.. He may have said okay but he certainly didn't mean that.. I feel that there was a communication problem and not being able to understand our server. Most places will work with you and make the customer happy, after all we dropped a lot of money there that night, but he was adamant about my husband saying he wanted regular. Not backing down any. I said to him, if you don't make this right you are going to loose us as a customer. Is that what you want? Price difference was about 5 bucks. He said yes.. I went out and talked to the manager and she said that she was taking the word of her employee and he was right. What happened to the customer is always right? Poor management will ruin your business! Definitely will not go back. I guess I am just used to better customer service. There are certainly a lot of restaurant choices out there and they should know that!

We did it!!! We found the worst Japanese restaurant in the country. The soup being miso was the only edible thing we consumed. The "romaine and avocado" salad was 100 percent iceberg with strips of avocado after waitress told us otherwise. The stir fry with one piece of broccoli... Oh brother why even continue with this review. Japanese in Boynton... Should have known better!!!

This is a fantastic sushi place I have never been to, great decoration, the food the very tasty. I used to be a sushi chef in manhattan, this is a vocation trip with my family, I can tell its fresh & good quality sushi when I see the fish! flash flash flash! Cooked dishes was great too, hibachi is not bad! Strongly recommend Thai fried rice, with chicken and shrimp, i I think the restaurant owner use great quality of curry powder to cook it. Great great great! My daughter said Yammy!

This review is long overdue and well deserved. Sawa, Sawa, Sawa, how I love thee! I have been eating Sawa sushi for several years at this point. Eat-in, take-out, delivery...I have experienced it all. Their food and service is phenomenal which is why I am there at least once a week if not more. I am a huge fan of all of their rolls, their sashimi and their shrimp fried rice. Also, their lunch specials can not be beat! Their food is consistent and always fresh which is why myself and my entire family always choose Sawa. Full disclosure...I most recently moved about 20 minutes away and tried a local sushi restaurant that I found great reviews on through yelp. It was by no means terrible, but I was no Sawa. I was left mapping out commute alternates so that I can make it back to Sawa as frequently as I usually do. They really are worth the extra drive :)

Food great but be careful. If you are there for earlybird watch out they don't charge full price. They will tell you coupon for early bird no good and cheaper if you get 15% off. NOT!!

I admit that in the past I have written restaurant reviews based upon two or three visits. It's really not enough times to get a true overview of the restaurant. While my reviews are truthful in that I was very impressed at the time, I have found that subsequent visits to certain dining establishments have proved the venue to be lacking. Hence, some of those places I don't even go to anymore. But NOT Sawa Hibachi Steakhouse and Sushi Bar. That is one of the few places that has withstood the test of time. From my very first visit to Sawa Hibachi Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, I knew that I had found some place special. I have since then become a regular customer, dining there weekly. Almost two years later, and I am still a regular customer, often dining at the restaurant during the week as well as on weekends. Throughout my time as a patron of this restaurant, I have found the service to be of a high quality: the food servers are consistently friendly, very attentive, and eager to please. The restaurant is well designed with a moderately-sized sushi bar, and a moderately-sized cocktail bar, and with a spacious dining area. An extensive separate room is set aside for hibachi seating. The décor consists of dark wood paneling, reminiscent of the type of wainscoting found in many Thai restaurants, while the walls of the sushi bar and the liquor bar area are accentuated with attractive stonework. Stylish amber-hued globe lighting, suspended ethereally over the bar, gives one the illusion of being under a solar system of floating planets. An opaque-white window that separates the main dining area from the hibachi room allows the leaping flames from the hibachi stove to create a flashing lightning effect that can be experienced by the diners seated in the main dining area. The patrons can hear the ooohs and aaaahs of the hibachi diners as they enjoy the culinary show performed by the hibachi chefs. As for the food, the two sushi chefs masterfully create a myriad of sushi and sashimi delights. Not only does the sushi bar carry the usual fish selections such as tuna, salmon and octopus, but one can find slightly exotic selections on the menu as well, such as fluke fin and red clam. On occasion, the sushi chef will import Uni sea urchin or Toro fatty tuna. Overall, their sashimi is unfailingly fresh, tender and succulent. On the whole, I have found their sushi rolls to be visually attractive and flavorful, with a decent rice-to-topping ratio. My favorite: the Sawa's Wasabi Roll, which is a collection of four different types of Japanese caviar, resting on a roll of rice and tuna. The menu also boasts a wide selection of appetizers and main courses. I have tried most of the appetizers and many of the main dishes. For an appetizer, I would highly recommend the grilled squid, brought to the table on a long dish, sliced into bite-sized pieces and flavored with butter sauce and garnished with steamed broccoli florets. This dish is more Mediterranean in attitude than Asian. Another of my appetizer favorites is the Yellowtail jalapeno, scrumptious paper-thin filets of Hamachi yellowtail, topped with crunchy, spicy ringlets of fresh jalapeno pepper. One of my favorite main dishes is the beef Yaki Udon a colorful and flavorful creation of stir-fried steak with a variety of vegetables, along with thick Udon noodles. Although served sans-spice, I will request for the chef to turn up the heat with extra hot pepper. I simply love that dish. Overall, between the quality of the service and the quality of the food, along with the casually elegant atmosphere, I hold the Sawa Hibachi Steakhouse and Sushi Bar in high regard. I constantly recommend this restaurant to my friends, relatives and co-workers. It is one of the few restaurants I know of where I can go to relax and de-stress after a hard week of work.

Awful experience. Completely Awwful. $90.00 for lunch for one adult and two kids. Buy 1 get 1 drinks. Sounds great right? Not so fast... WELL DRINKS ONLY! So I paid $20.00 for two drinks!!! Wish the lady would have told me! Yum Yum Sauce is gross! Taste like mayonnaise and is really really thick! Soup is tasteless. Additional $2.75 for fried rice. Only 3 refills per soda purchase. Salad... No cucumber, carrot or anything else just lettuce and dressing! Steak... Paid for fillet but it tasted like sirloin. Shrimp was good. Not over cooked. Hibachi was awful. Only thing the guy did was volcano.... That's it! And we had lots of kids at our table. No choooo chooo, no train, no heart... NOTHING! Service was sooooo slow. The lady was busy eating with her friends. They rushed us when we arrived because they added us to a table already in progress. Never ever ever ever again! You people who rated this 3+ need to get out more!!!

So we decided to come back to this establishment after a bad experience one night when it was near 8:45 pm and we came in looking to eat and they didn't want to serve us because they said that they closed at 9pm. So after that night which was roughly a few months after they had opened we decided never to come back. However, many of our friends would constantly tell us that this place was good - so after hearing everyone tell us - we made the decision to go! It was packed!!! I mean packed!!! There must have been at least a 45 minute wait time however we know the trick to most establishments - sit at the bar!!! We aren't into hibachi anymore as I'm allergic to shell fish and my wife is a vegan so - it makes no sense to us. But the hostess said you can sit at the bar as there were 2 open seats available. We ordered some edema me. Some hot green tea, salads, miso soup and some sushi rolls and tuna tataki for me. And I was more then please with what we got... And we would definitely recommend this place to anyone and we are surely coming back as its right by our house and it was real good!

I've been to a lot of different Hibachi restaurants before but this was probably the best hibachi dinner we ever had. The steak, shrimp and scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned along with the rest of our meal. The chef was also great at kidding around which keep my daughter entertained. We sat with some really nice people who gave us some good tips on restaurants while we down here. Highly recommended. Much better than the Sawa at City Place.

I love this place! Hibachi is great here. Kids love the little fire display the cooks do. It is priced comparable to other places like it. We've been here 4times and had a great dinner every time! Sushi rolls are pretty good too! One of our go to's for family date night.

Modern decoration with an extensive menu featuring your traditional japanese dishes to more fusion ones.I had the sashimi deluxe 20 pieces of various sashimi. i like that they served the fish over a bowl of shaved ice, keeping the fish nice and cool, the quality and freshness were well above many of those other places. The decor was very modern sushi type. go ahead give it a try. I dare you.... you will be hooked

Hibachi is my favorite thing to eat. I use to go to Saitos but to my husband and I this is so much better. The soup was amazing and flavorful. I don't eat the ginger saiad but my husband did. We got noodles which was awesome and delicious. And we got steak and shrimp with fried rice. The food was amazing and there was a lot if it and the service was great. Someone even bagged our food for us! It was a wonderful experience and I will be back soon and often

Great local sushi. Me and my wife went for sushi around 7:30 and they were packed. Service was pretty bad. It.... It was still worth it. The sushi quality was high and the food was very tasty and fresh. My only advise is don't go during peak time as I think they have some capacity issues. We will be back. Oh try the dynamite roll its outstanding!

Went with friends last night. 3 of us had Hibachi dinners, 1 did not. Many neighbors and friends at this new establishment. "Opening Special 15 percent discount" brought our 4-person check, without beverages, to $72.00 plus tip. The chef's entertainment was good and there was plenty of food. Mitch and I elected the "Filet" and chicken combo, while my wife had the "steak" and shrimp combo. The 4th had "veggies" --- there was a $1.00 surcharge for brown rice, and $2 or 3 for the white rice "fried" --- I tried my wife's steak to compare to to my upcharged "filet" and found hers just as tender, perhaps more flavorful, and while she ordered it medium rare and I ordered mine rare, mine was slightly over-cooked. Saw tons of neighbors here. We had a reservation at 6:30PM (Sat night) and many were still coming in at 7:30 when we left. The older Boynton crowd likes to eat early, and my wife and I would prefer a later night. We compromised with our friends. The miso soup was not too exciting, and I would have opted for the Hot and Sour which our server said could not be a substitute, nor did she offer a charge to switch. I didn't feel like paying $6.00 for soup when a free one came with dinner. Perhaps I'll try the H & S Soup for lunch one day. Bottom line: We'll be back --- I would have given 3 1/2 stars if I could --- we'll see next time if I want to go to 4 stars. Update: Went back for lunch with another friend and we were more impressed. Various dishes were prepared with great flavor and presented with flair. I had the Hot and Sour soup I was longing for and give it three stars. We had some salmon sushi, chicken teriyaki. I didn't see the check - my friend treated. Yea Irving.

Sushi is awesome. The kids loved the hibachi. Service was great. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful! So happy Sawa is in boynton beach.

I went here only wanting to try the beef negimaki and umesiso (which unfortunately they were out of) but ended up getting the red bean bubble milk tea with tapioca pearls as well. The beef negimaki was out of this world, with the delicious taste of the tender beef rolled around the crunchy scallions. Also the red bean bubble milk tea was superb and one of the best bubble teas I have had! The iced version (milk tea) makes it much less creamy and rich than the milk shake version. The tapiocas were also superb and nice and soft (as unfortunately not all tapioca pearls are). Very authentic flavors! I actually went inside at around 3:30 when they weren't even technically open (they close their lunch hours at 2:30 and re-open for dinner at 4:30) but the server was very nice and let me order take-out, even answering my questions and explaining about the bubble teas! I would highly recommend this place to sushi lovers and bubble tea enthusiasts!

Generous portions. Super fast service. Friendly staff and amazing sushi and stir fry! The hot and sour soup, chicken stir fry, gyoza (pork), Splendid roll, tuna and avocado roll, and fire dragon roll are all must gets! The hibachi area also seemed to be filled with entertaining and fun chefs! Attractive place (surprisingly due to its strip mall location). I cannot wait to go back for more!

I thought the sushi was very fresh, high quality and the shrimp fried rice was great! Shrimp were crisp and not mushy. It's about time Boynton Beach. I'm a chef by the way, and I was very impressed. Definitely recccomend it and will go back.

This place is really good. The sushi is top notch and hibachi is one of the best around. Really creative, really fresh, and very impressive. Nice interior as well. This place is going to be packed as soon as the word gets out.
